I have applied for exemption from payment of business registration fee and levy. How can I get the application result from the Business Registration Office?

 
 

A:

You will be informed of the result of your application in writing if the application is submitted in person or by post. If the exemption is granted, an "Exempt Business Registration Certificate" will be issued. If you make your application via GovHK, you may view and download the result together with the "Exempt Business Registration Certificate" (if the exemption is granted) via GovHK.

When should I make the application for exemption from payment of business registration fee and levy?

 
 

A:

For existing businesses, application for exemption submitted in person or by post should be made not later than 1 month before the date of expiry of a current business registration certificate. Application made via GovHK should be made not later than 1 week before the date of expiry of the current business registration certificate.

For new businesses, application for exemption submitted in person or by post should be made not later than 1 month after applying for the business registration. Application made via GovHK should be made not later than 7 weeks after applying for the business registration.

What should I do if I have been late in applying the exemption from payment of business registration fee and levy?

 
 

A:

For consideration of your late claim, you should provide the reasons which prevent you from lodging an exemption claim within the time limit when you submit your claim.

I have a sole-proprietorship business only. If the turnover of my business for a few months within the six months immediately preceding the date of application for exemption from payment of business registration fee and levy exceeds the exemption limit, am I eligible to make the application?

 
 

A:

If the average monthly turnover of your business of the six months immediately preceding the date of making application does not exceed the exemption limit (i.e. its profits is primarily derived from (1) the sale of services and its average monthly sales / receipts do not exceed $10,000; or (2) other business where its average monthly sales / receipts do not exceed $30,000), then you are eligible to make the application.
