Misleading WhatsApp message about issuance of refund cheques by Inland Revenue Department

     The Inland Revenue Department today (October 16) alerted members of the public to a misleading WhatsApp message which alleges that the department has started issuing refund cheques to taxpayers who had paid tax in the last financial year. The message also suggests taxpayers call the department if refund cheque is not received by next week.

    The department clarified that refund cheques would only be issued for cases with tax overpaid.
